![]() We’re looking at occupancy for lower floors for late fall, and for higher floors, you’re looking at some time in the spring of 2021. Amid challenging conditions in the real estate and lending markets, a proposed 80-story residential tower that had been planned to be the tallest high-rise in Texas has now been scaled. We have an amazing development team who was able to work with all of our staff, so our construction is progressing very well. Obviously, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find an industry that didn’t get affected in some way. Q: How close is construction of One Richmond Row to being done, and how did the pandemic affect it?Ī: (It’s) progressing very well. While they may look similar, Jenga blocks have subtle differences in dimensions to make their construction less stable. Basically, every city in Canada is often compared to, you know, Toronto or Vancouver or Montreal, because they’re the big places, and I think we should start comparing London to London. I think from moving forward with this project and moving with the Centro project, it’s a clear sign to us that both the city and the residents of the city have an interest in really making downtown London the place to be. Q: I guess the decision to invest this way in London speaks to the present of the city which, before the pandemic, was the second-fastest growing community in Canada, right?Ī: Absolutely. And so again, we are strong believers that London, especially downtown London, is going through a reignition and it’s going to be a booming place. We have another site downtown, Centro (which will become the tallest building in Southwestern Ontario), which is over 600 units. We’re hoping that through us building this building, others also going through the process of looking toward building downtown, that it’s going to reignite the fire of coming downtown and living downtown. London doesn’t have a very large downtown, when you look at our overall population, but we do have a really awesome downtown. Q: From a business perspective, it makes total sense for Old Oak to have attractive-looking properties, but why downtown London?Ī: This kind of luxury, unique building that is One Richmond Row, it attracts people to the downtown. We saw something that really was quite awesome and working with (the building’s designers) SRM Architects, they really knew exactly what to show us. Q: How was the design selection process for this specific project?Ī: When we first saw the first renditions of it, there were a few items but it was just something that really struck a strong tone. The construction of the Jenga-like residential tower One Richmond Row continues in London. And I think we really managed to capture it. ![]() And so we really wanted to go with something that wouldn’t overpower the London skyline, but that would still stand on its own. The site itself is on a smaller floor plate, so it causes a need to be a little more creative, from an architectural side. it gives an indication as if the whole building is slowly twisting as it goes up. A: I think the most unique characteristic is exactly what you described, kind of this Jenga feel.
